It's been a long week and my thoughts are turning to how to recharge my batteries this weekend. I came across this post from the Slow Leadership blog that reminded me of the importance of play, and in turn made me remember that I had tucked away this presentation by  Helene Blowers of LibraryBytes for future reference (note that for some reason it doesn't show the full screen on the blog page...just click on the title to get the full picture!

Empathetic Signage

Two of our Young Readers Librarians also heard Daniel Pink speak at the recent California Library Association and were as taken as I was with the idea of "empathetic signage".  The Young Readers Department happens to be changing its operations to close their reference desk a few minutes before the library closes so they can assist with clearing the library, and CLA attendee Linda Flint saw an opportunity to create an empathetic sign to alert customers, based on the classic children's book Goodnight Moon :

Library? What's that?

One of the things I do in my spare time is try to figure out how to save enough that I can retire while I am still young enough to enjoy it, and I follow a number of personal finance blogs in support of that goal.  It's amazing how often the public library is mentioned as a resource.

Tonight I was scanning my RSS feeds when this post from JD Roth over at Get Rich Slowly caught my eye.

The whole concept of the Fail blog is pretty funny, although it's hard to imagine there are people who have no idea we exist!

I love how JD takes the opportunity to make a pitch for Using the Public Library - and it sounds like he has a great one in his community.

Why I Miss Australia

One of the things I miss most about Australia is the great sport of "taking the mickey out of someone". ..and the absolute lack of respect for the "politically correct". Will I be watching this sitcom on ABC Online as soon as its available?  Too right I will!
