I'm working on my monthly report to the Board of Trustees, and looking at some of our key library statistics. We've all been saying that this summer feels busier than usual, and the stats bear this out. Looking at the monthly statistics for June 2008 vs. June 2007 (we're still collecting the July 2008 stats) I can see that month over month:
- Circulation was up over 4% across the District - and up an amazing 27% at Malaga Cove Library, which seems kind of odd because -
- Door count was up about 2.5% District-wide (it was down a fair bit at Malaga Cove Library, possibly a data collection error resulting from construction activity disrupting the electrical system, but up an astonishing 14% at Miraleste Library!)
- We issued 6.8% more library cards in June of 2008 than June of 2007
Probably most astounding - and a real testament to the hard work of our staff - is that attendance at library programs and events was up 45%! Almost all of the growth was in our Young Readers programs with record-breaking attendance at both story times and Summer Reading events across the District- great job YR Librarians!
